Submitted by prudy@hcis.net John Allen, 84, Former Resident, Succumbs in Pekin John Newell Allen, 84 former Hoopeston resident, who has made his home the past few years in LaGrange, died at a Pekin hospital at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, (Feb 20, 1963, after being in failing health for several years. The body was returned to Hoopeston and is at the Wood Funeral Home, where memorial services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. Ernest H. Duling of the Methodist Church officiating Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received tonight at the Funeral Home from 7 to 9. Born in Rossville on June 25, 1879, he was the son of Charles A. and Mary Thompson Allen. On April 29, 1912, he was married to Winifred Hess Chesley in Danville, who preceded him in death. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. I. R. (Emily) Jones, LaGrange and Mrs. James W. (Mary) Riley, Peoria; one sister Mrs. Louis V. Petry, Hoopeston, four grandchildren, Richard Jones, Mrs. Charles Paulius, Kirk and Becky Riley. There is one great-grandchild. Two nephews survive who are Lawrence and John Allen, Danville. One brother and his parents preceded him in death. Mr. Allen attended Hoopeston High School and the University of Illinois and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. After leaving Hoopeston, he made his home of recent years with his daughter, Mrs. Emily Jones, of LaGrange.
