GREEN RITES HELD WED'NSDAY
A prominent resident of this community for many years, Mrs. Chas. Green
74,
passed away at her home near Mann's Chapel at 10:40 a.m. Monday May 12, 1941..
Mrs. Green had been in ill health several years and seriously ill since
last Thursday when she suffered a paralytic stroke.
Lillian Teegarden Green was born April 14, 1867 at Augusta, Kentucky,
daughter of Isaac and Jennie Russell Teegarden and came to Illinois more than
50 years ago. On November. 11, 1890 she was married to Charles Green and
since that time has resided on the Green homestead.
Surviving are the husband and six children: Mrs. Ruby Hardy of Rossvile;
Charles Raymond Green and Russell McKinley Green at hom; Marion L. Green of
near Mann's Chapel, Mrs. Lucian Ray of Onarga and Mrs. Bessie Kelley of
Hoopeston;' three brothers, Wm. Teegarden of Rossville, Robert Teegarden of
Augusta Kentucky, and Clarence Teegarden of Cincinnati, Ohio; thirty
grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Mrs. Green was preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Edna Kelley and
Mrs. Josephine McBride.
Mr. And Mrs. Green celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last
November.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Mann's Chapel
Church with the Rev. E. A. Houldridge, pastor of the Rossville Methodist
church, conducting the services.
Mrs. Roy Mitchell and Mrs. Elmer Peterson Accompanied at thepiano by Mrs..
G. L. Merritt sang three selections , "Good Night here, and Good Morning
there," "Does Jesus care" and "We are going Down the Valley."
Pallbearers were Frank Yeazel, Jesse Height, Elwood Matthews, âWilbur,
Everett Sellers and âHardy.
The flowers were in charge of Dorothy Wilbur, Hazel Fielder, Glenna
Leonard, Esther Hollowell, Eunice McCormick, Ruby Sellers, Inez Jones,
Margaret Holladay, and Alice Poyner.
Interment was in the Mann's Chapel Cemetery, F. L. Erxleben in charge.
OBIT: STREET COMMISIONER'S WIFE SUCCUMBS
Death came to Mrs. Walter Kelly at 4 o'clock a.m. Wednesday,
December 7th,
1938 following a four weeks illness of complications.
Afflicted with Arthritis her condition was not considered grave until
early in the week when complications developed, death following shortly
after.
Edna Green Kelly was born at Rossville November 4, 1897 the daughter of
Charles and lilly Green. She was united in marriage to Walter Kelly, April
23, 1918 and to this union one daughter was born.
Surviving besides the husband and parents are the daughter, Mrs. Harold
Cornell; Three sisters Ruby Hardy, Lucia Ray and Bessie Kelly; three
brothers, Raymond, Marion and McKinley Green .
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 o'clock p.m. Friday December 9,
1938 in the First Methodist Church with the Rev. A. H. Flagge officiating .
The body will lie in state at the home until the hour of the funeral.
Burial will be in the Manns Chapel Cemetery with Jeanes andMoore in
charge.
EX-MERCHANT OF ROSSVILLE DIES BURIED IN IND.
Russell Moore, 49, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. John
Lichlyter,
310 Stewart Street, at 10 p.m. Thursday September 22, 1938. Death was due to
cancer of the liver following a five months illness.
Russell Henry Moore was born in Farmer, Kentucky August 5, 1889 son of
John and Eliza Moore. He came to Illinois when hew was 16 years of age and
has since resided in this community.
He was married to Faye Cameron of Galesburg who preceded him in death
several years ago.
Surviving are one son Eugene of Danville; one brother, Arthur of Mr.
Vernon , Ohio, four sisters, Miss Margaret Moore , Mrs. J. M. Brain , and
Mrs. John Lichlyter, of Rossville, and Mrs. Julius Pernett of Oakland, Ca.
Mr. Moore was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church at Muncie.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the John Lichlyter home..
Rev. Dell Caldwell , Pastor of the Missionary Baptist Church at Georgetown
officiated.
Pallbearers were nephews, Edward Darr, Donald Connor, Dewey Myers, John
Lichlyter, Russell, and Russell Osborne.
Obit: Retired Farmer Dies at Home Here Tuesday
William H. Beckley , 69, prominent retired farmer died at his
home on E.
Attica Street at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday February 14, 1939 after a two years
illness of complications
William Henry Beckley was born August 3, 1870 at Newton, Illinois son of
Samuel and Isabelle Grose Beckley.
Mr. Beckley spent his entire life in Eastern Illinois and Western Indiana
and engaged in farming activities until his retirement when he moved to
Rossville.
On December 25, 1894 he was united in marriage to Mary Etta Haas. To
this union were born five sons and two daughters, Mrs. Lucreta Cornell and
Mrs. Esther Berlin , Forest, William Jr. and harry all of Rossville, Grant,
Danville and Earl , Bismarck.
Mrs. Beckley preceded him in death on August 30, 1927.
On December 14, 1932 he was again united in marriage to Emery German who
survives with the 7 children.
Also surviving are two brothers, Harry of Cleator, Arizona, Lawrence of
San Francisco, California; one sister , Mrs. Mattie Keel of Rochester, Ind.
and one step-sister, Mrs. Ethel LaPage of Westfield, Ohio and 19 Great
Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Brethern
Church with Rev. C. W. Taylor of Gary , Ind. officiating.
Burial in Rossville Cemetery with Freese in charge.
OBIT: CUNNIINGHAM RITES WERE HELD FRIDAY
H. F. Cunningham, 86 died at the home of his daughter , Mrs.
Charles
Spies in Chicago, Wednesday , March 2, 1938 at 10:30 a.m. Seriously ill the
past three weeks death was due to pneumonia following a paralytic stroke.
Humphery F. Cunningham was born in Newell township July 39, 1851, son of
John and Elizabeth French Cunningham and spent his entire life in Illinois.
He was married to Josephine Campbell October 10, 1877.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Spies of Chicago and Mrs. D. H. Smith
of Arlington Heights and one son William R. Cunningham of Umatillia Fla.
He was preceded in death by his wife, One son, Perry, three brothers and
one sister.
Funeral services were held at 2:0 p.m. Friday at the Christian Church
with Rev. Harold G. Elsam of Hoopeston conducting the services.
The flower attendants were Mrs. Bert Smith, Mrs. Charles Prather, Mrs.
Ennis Battershell, Mrs. Minnnie Musk, Mrs. Frank Simmons, Mrs. Frank Marrs
and Mrs. Chloe McKinney.
Pallbearers were Forest Williamson, Bert Smith, Frank Simmorns, Reed
Songer, Al Christy and John Gearish.
OBIT: FRANK MARRS DIES AFTER WEEKS OF ILLINOIS
Frank Marrs, for many years employed at the Rossville Grain
consequently well
known in the vicinity, died at his home on East Attica street at 11:50 p.m.
Sunday, December 4, 1938.
Death was attributed to Cerebral Thromboisis following an attach while at
his work last Monday afternoon.
Mr Marrs was born on a farm in Edgar County, December 5, 1874 and passed
away the day before his 64th birthday. He was the son of William and Frances
Tanner Marrs.
On December 7, 1903 he was united in marriage to Nellie Kinney, Danville
, and to this union four children were born.
Surviving beside the widow are three children, Mrs. Harold Wilkey ,
Covington, Indiana; Mrs. Harold Moore , St Louis, Missouri and Myron Marrs of
Pesotum; a sister Mrs. Bertha Kennedy , Danville and two grandchildren. A
daughter, Gladys preceded him in death several years ago.
The funeral services were held at 3:00 P. M. Tuesday, December 6th at the
Marrs home with the Rev. Paul Magnuson officiating.
Pall Bearers were: R. H. Poland, Cecil Green, Irvin Warren, Clarence
Morgan., Charles Terrell and Otto Funk.
Flowers were in charge of Mes dames Glenn Prillaman, R. H. Poland, Harvey
Young, Charles Terrell, Stanley Chandler, Clarence Morgan, W. J. Sims, Horace
Chandler and Grover Humphrey.
Interment was in the Rossville Cemetery.
OBIT:COVINGTON MAN LAID TO REST IN MILLER CEMETERY
Jess D. Landsdown, 67, resident of near Covington, Ind. died in
the Lake View
hospital Danville at 5:00 p.m. Friday April 15, 1938, after a short illness.
He was born in Jamestown, Ind. May 7, 1870, son of William and Martha
Landsdown.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Louise Landsdown, three sons, Frank and
Russell of Warren County and paul of Hammond Ind. One daughter, Mrs. Gertrude
Clapp, St Louis,Mo. Two sisters, Lydia Landsdown of Rossville, and Mrs.
Jennie Bullah of Iowa; two brothers , Mort of Rossville, and Lewis of South
Dakota
Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Benson Chapel west
of Covington. The Rev. Mollie Marie Hoot officiated.
Burial was in the Miller Cemetery east of Rossville.
OBIT:JUDY RITES CONDUCTED SUNDAY
Mrs. Laura Judy, 71 , pioneer resident of Vermilion county,
passed away at
2:00 am Thursday March 6, 1941 at the home of her son, Harven Judy in Tilton..
Death followed several weeks illness of complications.
Mrs. Judy was born September 26, 1869 in Potomac daughter of Benjamin and
Sarah Moss Wise and lived in Vermilion county her entire life.
Surviving are thee sons, Rudolph Judy and Herschel Judy of Tilton; one
brother, Elmer Wise of Champaign,, ten grandchildren and one great
grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband Perry Judy, a prominent retired
farmer who died in April 1929 and a daughter Nellie who died at the age of 8
years.
Mrs. Judy resided in Rossville until three years ago and since that time
has made her home with her children.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday ain the Rossville Methodist
church, conducted by the Rev. A. H. Flagge of Gibson City and the Rev. E. A.
Houldridge.
Mrs. Roy Mitchell and Mrs. Elmer Peterson sang three numbers, "going down
the Valley", " God Will Take care of You: and : Sometime We'll Understand"
accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Clifford Hertenstein.
Flowers were in charge of grandchildren, Curtis Judy, Ray Judy, Harold
Judy, Eloise Judy, June Judy, and Mrs. Donald Claypool.
Pallbearers were T. J. Reynolds, Harvey Young, Edward Blair, William
Moyer, Elmer Moreland and Charles Blackford.
Interment was in the Rossville Cemetery.
OBIT:BISMARCK BUSINESS LEADER IS DEAD E. D. BROWN
A life resident of Newell Township and in business in Bismarck for more than
40 years, E. D. Brown, 69 died at 1 p.m. Saturday , Aug. 23,
1941, in
Illinois Central hospital at Chicago where he had been a patient for about a
month.
Mr. Brown and his brother, E. E. Brown owned the Brown Brothers Hardware
Store in Bismarck and this partnership had lasted since 1898 when they
established a lumber yard, later changing to the hardware and implement
business.
STARTED AS CARPENTER
E. D. Brown was born near Myersville, west of Bismarck, Jan. 17, 1872, son of
J. C. and Anna Finks Brown. He remained at home until he had reached his
majority, then started in life on his own account working at the carpenters
trade. He followed the contracting business later in life along with the
hardware and implement business.
He was married , Nov. 14, 1894 to Miss Ida Juvinall, who together with
three daughter, survives. The later are Mrs. Lee R. Campbell, Urbana, Mrs.
F. A. Graves , Seneca, Illinois and Mrs. Raymond Laury, Chicago, Ten
grandchildren also survive and a half brother , Frank Brown lives near
Bismarck.
STOCKHOLDER IN BANK
Mr. Brown was a member of the Methodist Church and for many years was a
stockholder in the Farmers & Merchants Bank in Bismarck.
The body was brought down from Chicago late Saturday and is at Lanham
Funeral Home in Henning. Funeral plans were incomplete Saturday night. The
body was to be returned to the home in Bismarck today to rest until the
funeral hour.
Obit: MAYOR OF ALVIN DIES AT 85
Cicero Allison 85 , Mayor of Alvin died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday
July 5, 1939
at his home.
He had milked and had gone into the house to rest on the davenport where
he died a few minutes later.
Native of Ohio, he was born January 12, 1854, son of Mark and Sarah
Allison. With his family he moved to the Alvin Community in 1861. He
managed the Grain Elevator for 20 years.
Mr Alison was a member of the Methodist church.
Surviving besides the widow, Barbara are the following children: John
Alison, Alvin; Mrs. Cornelia Roberts, Danville; Dan Alison, State Line; Mrs.
May Young, Urbana; Mrs. Emma Howard, Peoria; Mrs. Cordelia Struck, Danville;
Mrs. Ada Ingram, Hammond , Ind; Mrs. Ethel Carter, Albuquerque, N. M., and L..
C. alison, Westville. There are also 16 grandchildren and eight great
grandchildren.
Last rites were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the Alvin Methodist church
and the Rev. R. E. Evans conducting the services.
Burial was in Mann's Chapel Cemetery.
OBIT: EARLY RESIDENT OF ROSSVILLE DIES IN CHICAGO
A former Rossville resident, Mrs. Viola Chamberlain, 83, died in
Woodlawn
Hospital, Chicago, Wednesday March 8, 1939.
Ms. Chamberlain has been a resident of Chicago since 1890 and was the
widow of William H. Chamberlain who died about 17 years ago.
She was the daughter of Mr.and Mrs. L. M. Thompson, Pioneer residents of
Vermilion county, and was born in Rossville, November 18, 1855. Her husband
was a prominent Educator and in the 80's was principal of the Catlin and
later the Rossville high School.
Following their marriage in 1888, Mr. And Mrs. Chamberlain moved to
Joliet where hew was the superintendent of the school. In 1890 they moved to
Chicago where he continued his work in the schools.
A daughter, Minnie Chamberlain live in Chicago. Two sister, Mrs. Lena
Ray, Attica Ind. and Mrs. Harriett Morrow, Chicago also survive.
Funeral services were held in Chicago Friday morning and the body brought
to Danville for interment in the Springhill Cemetery. Short services were
held at the grave at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
Mrs. Chamberlain was a school girl friend of Mrs. Margaret A. Mann.
OBIT: DEATH CLAIMS MRS. LAURSEN; BURIAL SUNDAY
Death came to Mrs. Magda Laursen, 54 at 6:00 p.m. Thursday April
20, 1939 at
the St. Elizabeth hospital in Danville after an extended illness with cancer..
She had been a patient in the hospital three weeks.
Mrs. Laursen was born April 8, 1884 in Denmark and came to this country
when quite young.
Surviving are the husband Laurrts Laursen and one son, Eugene at home.
Also her mother, who resides in Denmark.
Funeral services were held at the home at 2:00 p.m. Sunday with Re., Paul
Magnuson officiating.
Burial in Rossville Cemetery with Jeanes and Moore in charge.
OBIT: LAST RITES FOR MORRIS JONES HELD SUNDAY
Morris Jones, 43, well known farmer residing west of Rossville,
died at the
family residence at 5:30 a.m. Friday April 28, 1939. He had been ill ten
days with pneumonia.
Mr. Jones had spent his entire life in the vicinity of Rossville and
Hoopeston. He was born in Rossville September 13, 1895, son of Edward and
Emma Morris Jones. On October 10, 1914 he was married to Ruth Hall of
Potomac, the ceremony occurring in Danville.
Surviving are his wife and eight children, all at home. They are George,
Morris, Adeline, Emma, Charles, Robert, Edward and Mary. A daughter preceded
him in death 3 years ago.
Mr. Jones was a member of the Modern Woodmen Lodge of Rossville.
Funeral services were held at the residence at 2:30 p.m. Sunday Rev. A.
H. Flagge, pastor of the Rossville Methodist church officiating.
Pallbearers were: Wayne Pruitt, Emory Dubea, Charles Moore, J. T. David,
Harold Peterson and Charles Kentner.
Flowers were in charge of Viola Morgason, Helen Pasley, Edna Terrell,
Glenna Ruth Kentner, June Kentner, Helen Scott, Helen, Mary and Edith Tuggle
and Peggy Pasley.
Burial was in the Rossville Cemetery, Jeanes and Moore in charge.
OBIT: STROKE LEADS TO DEATH
Following a paralytic stroke five months ago which lead to complications and
his death , Morton Landsdown, 74 , passed away at 3 a.m. Tuesday
morning,
July 26, 1938.
He had been seriously ill for the past two months at the home of his
sister, Miss Lydia Landsdown.
Mr. Landsdown was born July 28, 1863 at Jamestown, Indiana son of William
and Martha Hedge Landsdown. On September 22, 1886 he was married to Mildred
Miller. They resided on a farm east of Rossville until December 1927 when
they moved into Rossville.
Surviving are six children, Mrs. Madge Watson and mrs. Laverne Rindt of
Danville; Mrs. Edna Boardman of Hoopeston; Lowell Landsdown of Rossville;
Gene Landsdown of Jackson, Tennessee; Verle Landsdown of Bismarck; two
sisters Mrs. Jennie Ballah of Milford, Iowa and Miss Lydia Landsdown of
Rossville and a brother , Lewis Landsdown, Canisotat, South Dakota
He was preceded in death by his wife who died nine years ago and four
children.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the home of Lowell
Landsdown. Rev. H. J. Haasch of Danville, a former Presbyterian Minister of
Rossville will officiate.
Burial will be in the Miler Cemetery, Freese and Sons in Charge.
OBIT: PNEUMONIA CLAIMS AGED RESIDENT
Death came to Mrs. Mary Ann Prather, 89 , at 4:30 p..m. March 2,
1939 at her
home on E. Attica St. After a brief illness of pneumonia.
Mrs. Prather was born August 16, 1849 in white Oak Michigan, daughter of
James and Mary Segear. When quite young she moved to Illinois with her
parents. Her marriage to Johnothan Prather occurred March 3, 1873 in
Hoopeston. Mr. Prather, Rossville's last civil war veteran, preceded her in
death nine years ago. She was also preceded in death by a son who died in
infancy, two brothers and one sister.
Surviving are one son, Ortho of Rossville and three sisters, Lydia A.
Gill of Long Beach, California, Della Benson of Portsmouth, Virginia and
Margaret Dennis of Dansville, Michigan
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the home with Rev. Paul
Magnuson, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiating.
Flowers wree in charge of Mrs. R. H. Poland, Mrs. Date Huffman, Mrs.
Minnie Musk, Mrs. L. H. Schlecht, Mrs. Harvey Young, Mrs. G. H. Prillaman,
Mrs. Frank Marrs and Mrs. Cecil Thomas.

Bert Smith and Date Huffman.

Rossville (CBN)-- Grave side rites will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the
Mann's Chapel Cemetery near Rossville for Mrs. Lula Brill, 73 ,
a former
Rossville resident, who died Monday , Aug. 8, 1960 at the home of her
daughter Mrs. Georgia Cronkhite at Sount Bend, Ind.
Born Sept. 23 , 1886 in the Mann's Chapel community, she was the daughter
of Morris and Mary Thompson Green. She was married to George Brill who
preceded her in death on Nov. 9 ,1933 . She had moved from the Rossville
Community in 1935.
Surviors include two daughters Mrs. Cronkhite and Mrs. Geraldine Perkins of
Kansas City, Kan; a son, Paul of Hammond ; Two sisters Mrs. Effie Madison of
Minneapolis, Minn. And Mrs. Bertah Ingersol of California; and a brother,
Clarence of California.

Donald Smock Rossville (CNS)-- Ill two weeks from a blood
disturbance,
Donald Eugene Smock 12, died at 9 p.m. Tuesday , Jan 13, 1942, at Lake View
Hospital at Danville,
Donald was born April 15, 1929, at Rossville, son of Mr. And Mrs. Harold
Smock. He was in the sixth grade at Rossville Grade School.
Surviving besides his parents are five brothers, Harold Lloyd, Jack,
John, Gordon and Larry Joe; three sisters, Beatrice, Ethel and Mary Frances;
a grandmother Mrs. Ethel Smock of Danville; an aunt, Mrs. Ruth Carter of
Hoopeston and an Uncle Earl Smock of Paris
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Christian Church with the
Rev. Ralph Small of Antioch officiating. Burial in Rossville Cemetery with
Freese in Charge.
OBIT: WOMAN DEAD AT POTOMAC AT AGE 90
Mrs. Eveline Coil (Potomac (CNS)-- Resident of Potomac and
vicinity 63
years, Mrs. Eveline Coil, 90, died at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan . 14, 1942,
at the home of a son, Henry Coil.
Mrs. Coil, daughter of William and Melissa Kyger Hepburn, was born Oct.
18, 1851. Most of her girlhood was spent near Grape Creek, Illinois. She was
married May 13, 1875 to Myrick Coil, Civil War Veteran, and they moved to a
farm in the Blue Grass vicinity, north of town, in 1879. She was a member of
United Brethren Church here.
Surviving are three sons, Henry of Potomac, and Louis and Wilkie of Ida
Grove, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs.
Martha Madden of Georgetown.
Burial will be in the Potomac Cemetery with Copeland and son in charge.
OBIT: WOMAN CLERK IN CITY 28YEARS DEAD
Mrs. Elizabeth Pickard
Resident of Danville for past 35 years, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Pickard, 44, wife
of Kenneth Pickard 15 N. Jefferson St. South Danville, died at 1:45 a.m.
Thursday, Nov. 21, 1940, in Lake View Hospital where she had been a patient
about two weeks.
Mrs. Pickard had been employed in hosiery department of J. C. Penney
Store for seven years. She came to Danville in 1905 from Crawfordsville and
attended the Danville schools. Prior to going to J. C. Penney's she worked
for Straus & Louis for 21 years.
Daughter of Charles and Orie Etta Cowan Rice, she was born Oct. 27, 1896
near Crawfordsville. She was married Dec. 8 1919 to Kenneth Pickard at
Crawfordsville.
Besides her husband, she is survived by the following brothers and
sisters; Mrs. J. R. Davidson, Clarence Rice, and Miss Catherine Rice, all of
St. Louis; Herbert Rice, Danville,; and mrs. Eddie Stichnoth wellington,
Illinois. Her parents and three brothers , Ernest , Howard and Charles D.
Rice preceded her in death
The body is at Pape Memorial Home where it will remain for funeral
services to be held Sunday afternoon. Further arrangements are incomplete.
OBIT: PROMINENT ROSSVILLE FARMER DEAD
Isaac Carter
Scion of a pioneer Eastern Illinois family and a landowner and farmer for
more than half a century, Isaac Carter, 88 , Rossville, died at 8:50 a.m.
Friday , Nov. 28, 1941. At lake View Hospital in Danville.
Although an illness last February confined him to the hospital for many
days, he attended to his affairs regularly after his dismissal and last
Saturday was able to drive in his automobile. Sunday he suffered a stroke of
paralysis and was brought to Danville.
BORN NEAR BISMARCK
Isaac Carter was born Aug. 10. 1853 east of Bismarck, the son of Bryant
and Catherine Phillips Carter. Part of his early life was spent near Tuscola
and about 55 years ago he owned and operated a farm in Champaign County.
In 1904, Mr. Carter moved to a farm south of Rossville which he continued
to manage actively until his retirement a few years ago. He was among the
pioneer advocates of hard roads for Vermilion County.
He was united in marriage with Eliza Ann Faulkner in 1885. She preceded
him in death in December 1927.

Surviving are three sons, Attorney I Ray Carter, 1108 N. Vermilion St. City,

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the family home a half mile
south of Rossville. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery, Freese in charge.

Richard Eugene Ellis
Rossville (CNS)-- Student of the fifth grade of Rossville School, Richard
Eugene Ellis, 10, died Tuesday night, Mar, 5, 1940 at Lake View Hospital from
complications following influenza.
Son of Donald and Lucille McClalla Ellis, he was born Sept. 4, 1929 in
Hoopeston. He attended the local Christian Church Sunday School. Surviving
besides the parents is a brother, Donald Jr.
The body will remain at home of the grandparents, Mr. And Mrs. Ernest
Ellis, south of here until the funeral at 2 p.m. Friday at the Christian
Church, The Rev. Paul Magnuson officiating. Burial will be in the Rossville
Cemetery, Jeanes in Charge
OBIT: ROSSVILLEAN DROPS DEAD
Ida Armantrout Rossville (CNS)-- Death came suddenly to
Miss Ida
Armantrout, 68, Saturday, Nov. 8, 1941, at :45 p.m. She died while refueling
a kitchen fire in the presence of two visiting friends. Mrs. Ezra Smock and
Mrs. Elizabeth Sharp. She resided alone.
Born 6 ½ miles west of Rossville, Mar. 27, 1873. Miss Armantrout spent
all of her life in this vicinity. Four nephews, Hiram Armantrout of
Rossville Route 2; Henry of champaign; guy of Lansing, Illinois and William
of Chicago are her closest surviving relatives.
Time of the last rites will be made later. The body is at Erxleben
Funeral Home. Interment in Rossville cemetery.
Coroner John Cole was summoned and conducted an inquiry. Death was
believed due to a cerebral hemorrhage.
OBIT: MRS. M. WISMAN 100 YEARS OLD, DIES AT ROSSVILLE
Mrs. Mary Wiseman
Rossville Mrs. Mary Wiseman, 100, oldest resident of this vicinity, died at
her home here at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, 1941. She had been bedfast for
about three years.
Born Mar. 16, 1842, Mrs. Wiseman would have been 101 years old next
spring. Immediate survivors are a son, Edgar Wiseman of Greenville, Ky. And
two daughters, Mrs. Laura Sellers, south of Rossville, and Mrs. Ella Wiseman
at home.
OBIT: MRS. MITCHELLL LAID TO REST WEDNESDAY
Mrs. Nellie Marshall Mitchell, 52 died at 10:30 p.m. Sunday June
25, 1939 at
the Lake View hospital in Danville.
She had been in ill health several years, and submitted to a major
operation early last week. Death came Sunday night following a heart attack..
Mrs. Mitchell was born February 9, 1887 in Howard, Indiana daughter of
John and Elizabeth Paney Marshall. She was married to William E. Mitchell on
December 23, 1908.
She is survived by her husband, and four children, Don and Fred at home,
Delbert of Gary, Ind. and Mrs. Geraldine Elrod of Indianapolis, Ind., two
sisters, Mrs. Logan Jackson Bloomingdale and Mrs. Clara Warn, Dana; two
brothers, David Marchall Tangier and Don of Howard Ind.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Methodist church with
Rev. A. H. Flagge officiating.
Interment was in the Rossville Cemetery.

Richmond Gilbert Hughes, 75 , who passed away at his home 206
Maple Street at
7:15 p.m. Sunday , October 22, 1939 following an extended illness.
Rev. A. H. Flagge, pastor of the Methodist church, conducted the
services.
A quartete composed of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Yeazel, Mrs. Elmer Peterson and
W. E. Roberts sang "Going Down The Valley" and :Beautiful Isle of
Somewhere."
Mrs. W. H. Beckley sang "Safe In The Arms Of Jesus."
Pallbearers were grandsons and flower girls were granddaughters.
Burial was in the Miller cemetery. The Obituary is published on page

James William Barcus Rossville (cns)-- Director of Rossville
Building Load
and former building contractor, James William Barcus, 80 died at 4 a.m.
Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1942 at his home of a heart attack.
Son of John and Mary Hoagland Barcus he was born Oct. 18, 1861. He was
married Nov. 27, 1888, to Miss Mary Trusheim who survives. He was a lifelong
resident of Rossville and a member of the Methodist Church here.
Surviving in addition to his wife and three children, George Benjamin
Barcus of Rossville, Mrs. Adaline Bennett of Hooopeston and Lawerence Barcus
of Waukegan, Ill; Two brothers, George in North Dakota and Charles of Urbana;
two sisters Mrs. Lilly thomas of Washington D. C. and Mrs. Berta Huffman of
Grape Creek Ill; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The body is at Freese Funeral
OBIT: LAST RITES FOR GENIE SMITH HELD SUNDAY
Mrs. Genie Smith, 54, died at 4:10 p.m. Friday January 23, 1942
at the St.
Elizabeth hospital in Danville where she had been a patient five days. Death
was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage.
She was born October 15, 1887 in Texas daughter of James and Mary Hooten..
On July 23, 1904 she was married to Elon Smith in Kentucky. She had lived
in Rossville 16 years.
Surviving are the husband and five children Mrs. Mary Huffman, Mrs. Mabel
Deck and Herbert Smith of Rossville; Mrs. Margaret Perkins of Cedar Lake,
Ind. and Mrs. Pearl Viles of South Holland ,Illinois.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the home of her
son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William Huffman with the Rev. Paul W.
Boyer, pastor of the Rossville Church of Christ, officiating.
Mrs. Nora Schultz and Mrs. Roy Mitchell sang two numbers; "rock of
Ages: and "Going Down the Valley."
Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Mary McBride, Mrs. Nora McBride, Mrs Doris
Eaken, Mrs. Robert Thompson, Mrs. Hazel Fidler and Mrs. Frances York.
Pallbearers were: C. M. York, Dale Filder, Orvile Eaken and Sam Strawser..
Interment was in the Rossville Cemetery, F. L. Erxleben in charge.
OBIT: Rossville Newspaper HEART ATTACK FATAL TO BUILDING CONTRACTOR
TUESDAY MORNING
J. W. Barcus, 80, prominent building contractor of Rossville,
was stricken
with a heart attack early Tuesday morning January 27, 1942 and died very
suddenly at his home 215 Perry Avenue.
Mr. Barcus was born October 18, 1861 on a farm 4 ½ miles northwest, of
Rossville, son of John and Mary Hoagland Barcus. He was married to Miss Mary
Trusheim on November 27, 1888.
Mr. Barcus went to Iowa in 1869 where he lived for three years, returning
to Rossville in 1872. He learned the carpenter trade in 1884. In 1894 he
entered the contracting business with L. T. Austin. Two years later he formed
a partnership with T. A. tucker , the partnership continuing many years. At
the time of his death he was actively engaged in contracting with his son,
George Barcus. Ms. Barcus has build 75 homes in Rossville.
Mr. Barcus was active in Church and civic affairs. He was a member of the
Rossville Methodist Church and director of the Rossville Building and Load
Association.
Surviving are his wife and three children: George Benjamin Barcus,
Rossville; Mrs. Adeline Bennett of Hoopeston and Lawreance Barcus of
Waukegan; Two brothers, George Barcus of North Dakota and Charles Barcus of
Urbana; Two sisters Mrs. Lily Thomas of Washington, D. C. , and Mrs. Berta
Huffman of Grape Creek; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. today (Thursday) in the Methodist
church conducted by the pastor, the Rev. E. a. Houldridge and the Rev. A. H.
Flagge of Gibson City.
Interment was in the Rossville Cemetery. Freese in Charge.
